About merging PDF files
Merging a PDF means taking several separate documents and joining them into one continuous file, in the order you choose. It is one of those small jobs that appears constantly: a scanned contract that arrived as five one-page files, an expenses claim made of a dozen receipts, a report whose cover page, body and appendix were written by three different people. Sending one tidy document is almost always easier for the person on the other end than sending an email with eight attachments and a note explaining the order.
Getting the order right
Order matters more than anything else when merging. After you add your files, PDFTools lists them so you can move each one up or down, or remove a file you added by mistake, before anything is combined. Pages from each document are then appended one after another, so file two always begins immediately after the final page of file one. If a document is already in the wrong internal order, fix it first with Reorder PDF Pages, then merge — that is usually quicker than merging and untangling afterwards.
What stays the same in the merged file
PDFTools copies pages across rather than re-rendering them as images. Text stays selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay crisp at any zoom level, and embedded fonts travel with the pages that use them. Pages also keep their own size and orientation, so an A4 report followed by a landscape spreadsheet page produces a mixed-size document rather than squashing anything to fit. If you would prefer a uniform look, adjust the source files before combining them.
There is no fixed limit on how many files or pages you can merge. The practical ceiling is your device's memory, because the whole job runs inside your browser: nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored on a server, and no account or email address is needed. Very large scanned bundles on an older phone may take a few seconds and a lot of RAM, so on those it can help to merge in two stages.
