About splitting PDF files
Splitting is the opposite of merging: you start with one document and end up with the specific parts you actually need. People usually reach for it when a long file contains something small and important — the signed page of a lease, one invoice inside a monthly statement, a single chapter from a handbook, or the two pages of a form that a colleague has to complete. Sending just those pages is faster to read, smaller to email and often safer, because everything else stays with you.
Three ways to split
PDFTools offers single pages, custom ranges and every page. Choosing individual pages pulls the pages you tick into one new document. Custom ranges accept the notation most people already expect: type 1, 3, 5-8 to keep page one, page three and the block from five to eight, and each range you enter becomes its own output file. Every page is the blunt option — it turns a twenty-page document into twenty single-page PDFs, which is handy when each page has to be filed or signed separately.
Page numbers refer to the document as you see it on screen, starting at one. Numbers outside the document, reversed ranges and duplicates are flagged before anything runs, so a typo produces a clear message rather than a strange file.
Downloads and quality
When a split produces a single document, you get that PDF straight away. When it produces several, PDFTools packages them into one ZIP file so your browser is not fighting a stack of downloads, and each PDF inside is named after the pages it contains. Pages are copied, never rasterised, so text remains selectable, links and fonts survive, and file sizes stay proportional to the pages you kept.
